Storm Season Update

Storm season is well and truly here with damage to many homes already this summer.

I have twice written to the Crisafulli Government to request the full activation of Personal Hardship Grants for all our affected suburbs in response to the hailstorms last month. Unfortunately, they continue to exclude suburbs such as Arana Hills, Bunya and Ferny Hills – among others. This is incredibly disappointing and shortsighted.

Targeted Personal Hardship Assistance Grants have been activated to include the Brisbane suburbs of Ashgrove, Ferny Grove, and Keperra.

Three assistance measures are available to eligible residents:

  1. Structural Assistance Grants – up to $80,000 for uninsured, income-tested owner-occupiers towards the repair or replacement of a disaster damaged dwelling to return it to a safe and habitable condition.
  2. Essential Household Contents Grants – income-tested assistance for uninsured residents, up to $1,765 for individuals and up to $5,300 for couples or families to replace destroyed essential household contents like whitegoods.
  3. Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme – income-tested grants up to $5,000 per household for uninsured homeowners needing to reconnect services like electricity, gas, water or sewerage.

For more information on the grants, eligibility and how to apply, visit www.disaster.qld.gov.au. Queenslanders can also call the 24/7 Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.

SES have advised if you haven’t already, it is not too late to make your plan for the remainder of the season.

Packing a three-day kit, making a list of contacts, or branch trimming are just some of the many things to consider for your plan.
